What to do in Almeria?

If you choose to stay few days in Almeria, have a look to this page and use this Map

Best Beaches

  • Playa de los Genoveses – large golden-sand beach in an almost unspoiled bay, ideal for relaxing away from buildings.

  • Playa de Mónsul – iconic beach with clear waters and a distinctive rock formation on the sand; very photogenic.

  • Cala Rajá – small, quiet cove with black sand and crystal-clear waters. (difficult access)

  • Playa de las Salinas – long, peaceful beach near the Cabo de Gata lighthouse, perfect for long walks.

  • Playa de los Muertos – turquoise waters among the clearest in the region; a more rocky and wild beach (beware of currents).

  • Cala de San Pedro – isolated cove accessible on foot (1.5-hour walk) or by boat, perfect for those seeking peace and quiet. (boat access from Las Negras)

Nice to See

  • Las Negras: charming small village by the beach, perfect for having a drink and even enjoying a meal.

  • Les Mines de Rodlquilar: former mines with striking landscapes. Can be visited by car; the terrain is generally accessible.

  • Cortijo del Fraile: ruins set in a desert landscape. In 1928, a real-life event took place here: a tragic wedding that ended in a crime of passion. This story directly inspired Federico García Lorca to write his legendary play Blood Wedding (Bodas de Sangre), one of the major works of Spanish theatre.

  • Los Albaricoques: small village, famous as a filming location for spaghetti westerns.

Almeria City

  • La Alcazaba: one of Almería’s most emblematic monuments, a 10th-century Moorish fortress with stunning views of the city and the sea. Perfect for understanding the region’s medieval history.

  • 16th Cathedral combining Gothic, Renaissance, and defensive styles (it once served as a refuge against pirates)

  • Les refuges: underground shelters built during the Spanish Civil War.

  • Le Cable Inglés: an icon of Almería with sea views

  • La plage du Zapillo: beach, drinks, and tapas.

  • La plaza de la Constitucion the historical and institutional heart of Almería.

  • The Market: Yummy!
